ISVA Board Awards Five Scholarships

Each year the Indian Springs Village Board awards scholarships to High School students who are graduating and planning to go to college.  They have to meet rigorous scholastic & community service standards. We received many incredible applications and were reminded of the intelligence, persistence, and kindness our students possess. The scholarship committee, like most years, had a difficult time selecting our winners. Thanks so much to all students who submitted their applications.

This year we're excited and pleased to announce that these scholarships will go to five outstanding, graduating seniors, Anna Orr, Katherine Muller, and Niah Patel who attend The Woodlands High School, as well as Jason Sharer and William Kaiser who attend College Park High School.

Anna Orr is dedicated to giving back to The Woodlands through the National Charity League and her varsity Basketball and Soccer team.  Some of her favorite charities are Meals on Wheels, the Hand Me Up Shop, and the Interfaith Food Bank. In addition to her philanthropic efforts, she maintained an impressive GPA while playing varsity soccer and basketball.

Katherine Muller is also involved with the National Charity League and has seen the direct impact her charitable hours have contributed to the community.  Among her favorites were making bags for breast cancer patients, volunteering at The Woodlands Arts Festival, and tending and harvesting fruits and vegetables for elderly in need.  She was highly recommended by her counselor due to her drive to maintain a rigorous class and work schedule while making time to give back to the community.

Niah Patel volunteered at The Houston Methodist Hospital in The Woodlands through the Junior Volunteer Program.  Her service was during 2020 and 2021 at the height of the pandemic.  As a mentor in the program, she led a team of volunteers to coordinate staff appreciation events to boost morale during this unprecedented time.  She also visited patients, refilled supplies, assisted nursing staff and managed the information desk.  In addition to her admirable work at the hospital she also volunteered at the MD Anderson Blood Drives and volunteered for five years as a referee for BEST Robotics Houston.

Jason Sharer completed nearly 1000 hours of service in our community and beyond through Gulf Coast Mensa, Boy Scouts, National Charity Roundtable, TWCP Interact Club, The Woodlands Township and The Woodlands Green.  Most impressively, these charitable contributions were made while maintaining a stellar GPA, working as a tutor, playing varsity sports, and participating in several extracurricular activities. His awards, accolades, and academic achievements are extensive, but he’s received our scholarship for what he’s given back to our community.  His Eagle Scout service project was transitioning the land at Reedy Pond Park into a certified monarch butterfly habitat.  In addition he has volunteered with the Township directly at the 3R Bazaar, Clean Up Green Up and Taste of the Village.  Through Gulf Coast Mensa, he collected and analyzed soil moisture samples to help NASA calibrate the SMAP (Soil Moisture Active Passive) satellite through GLOBE.

William Kaiser volunteered hundreds of hours through the Boy Scouts, National Charity Roundtable, NASA’s Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) program and more.  His Eagle Scout Service Project involved reforestation in which he supervised volunteers who planted trees at the Park and Ride on Ashlane.  As an Eagle Scout, he also built a playground in our community and worked on a monarch butterfly garden.  He was also chosen as the programmer for a start-up charity called Scoops for Hoops which raised money for middle school STEM education.  This student showed a remarkable commitment to our community while maintaining a high GPA within The Academy of Science and Technology.  It is our great honor to congratulate William Kaiser with an ISVA Voluntary Service Award.

We presented these scholarships at our April 12, 2022 meeting at 7 pm, Indian Springs Village Association Board meeting.  CONGRATULATIONS, Anna, Kat, Niah, Jason and William!
